We should let the scriptures say what they say rather that interpret then to fit our existing doctrine. A contentious topic is "what are the primary parts that make up a person?". We find people often will declare war if their beliefs on topics like this one, are challenged. To understand the primary parts we are made of, should be a straight forward process. Simply pull them from the scriptures. Yet sometimes people consider their beliefs more important than what is in the scriptures.

As I study the scriptures, I see the scriptures talking about six primary parts of a person. A physical body, a soul, the human spirit, the heart, the flesh, and the spiritual body. There is also a seventh part the Holy Spirit, that comes inside a believer's human spirit at salvation. The Holy spirit is not us, but it abides with us and will never leave nor forsake us. The Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth.

What do you believe about the parts that makeup a person? Many preachers and colleges teach that a person is made up of just two parts. A body and a soul. They call that a dichotomy. Others teach that we are three parts; a body, a soul, and a human spirit. That is called a trichotomy. Are some of the six parts listed above just a part of the body or of the soul or of the human spirit?  What do you see in the scriptures? Are those six parts primary parts or are those claiming otherwise trying to reinterpret the scriptures to justify their private interpretation or beliefs?

Can you see why what should be a straight forward issue could turn into an intense point of contention?
